The year is 1979.. Before the TV series, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century (starring Gil Gerard & Erin Gray) premiered in cinemas. The theatrical release later became the pilot of the TV series, with a few notable differences; the best of which was a “70’s porno-style opening sequence” which never made it into the TV show.

Most fans of the late 70’s TV series “Buck Rogers in the 25th Century” are familiar with the following wholesome, fun-for-all-the-family opening title sequence:

Now may I present to you the 70’s-porno-style-version of the title sequence for the theatrical release…

Starring Gil Gerard (As Buck Rogers), Erin Gray (Wilma Deering), Pamela Hensley (Princess Ardala) and some random futuristic space babes who have no place in either the theatrical release or the TV series but are only there to look sexy and take advantage of Buck as he lies unconscious on a giant light-up plexiglass stage in space. (Who are they? Why are they there? Perhaps we’ll never know…)

Poor Erin Gray looks highly uncomfortable as she pouts seductively & awkwardly attempts a sexy hair flip. I bet she was thinking; “What kind of film is this? My agent told me it would be PG rated. What have I gotten myself into?”

Pamela looks like she’s ready for anything, in her metallic bikini & Playboy centrefold-type pose.

Buck just looks really, really happy to be there.

The whole bizarre, surreal scene is supposedly a fantasy playing out in Buck’s head while he is frozen in space for 500 years (womaniser much?)

The theme song lyrics which accompany the scene are surprisingly deep for what is essentially a frozen wet dream in space…

“Long before this life of mine, long before this time
What was there, who cared to make it begin?
Is it forever or will it all end?
Searching my past for the things that I’ve seen
Is it my life or just something I dreamed?”

Now for something completely different to snap you out of your stupor, here is the South Park parody of the Buck Rogers TV opening sequence, starring the super-sexy Eric Cartman. You’re welcome! 😉
